Coronavirus - Common Sense From a Meathead

Disclaimer:
First off let’s get this straight, I am just a fitness meathead with some YouTube channels, which doesn’t make me an expert on anything that I am going to talk about. I am not an expert in social economics or how viruses work as I am clearly not a doctor of anything. So everything that I say in this video is for entertainment purposes and not meant to be any type of medical advice.

What I do feel I am pretty good at is something people have forgotten about these days, and that’s called common sense. Common sense does not make you right all of the time but it is something that is clearly missing in society today.

I am not even going to be presenting many actual facts or quote articles or point you to videos or medical journals. Again, this is just a common sense point of view that happens to be mine and may not be yours. We do not have to agree on any of the information and you are free to have a completely different opinion than mine. All I ask is that we all be civil and respect that we can all have different points of view and not be disrespectful to each other.

Common Sense Topic Number 1. Is the Coronavirus a Threat?
Sure just like any virus that can kill you, we need to be aware of it and take realistic precautions to not get it and either get sick or potentially die. I think we all agree on that one.

Common Sense Topic Number 2. Is the Coronavirus as Big a Threat as We Once Thought?
Maybe not, it was once thought that Covid-19 would kill 20% of the people it infected. Now we are nearing less than 1% and that is with old data that does not always take into account the 50% of people that get Covid-19 and don’t even now they had it since they where not sick and in many cases not tested so they did not make the stats. What we are learning about Coronavirus is that it is very contagious, maybe even more than we thought and it may have been around longer than we thought with way more people already exposed to it. Again this questions what the real death percentage rate actually is?

Common Sense Topic Number 3. Who does the Coronavirus Target the Most?
I’m pretty sure we are all on the same page on this one. Covid-19 targets the elderly and those with existing health conditions. People that smoke, that are obese, that have heart disease and high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and lung issues. What about young and healthy people? They are far from exempt, but data is showing that if you have no preexisting health conditions than you will fall into the .9% of those that die, not that get Coronavirus but that actually die. It’s really not as much about age but rather health and the reality is the older we get, the more likely we are to have existing health conditions. So if you are older but super healthy then your chances are less. Now if you are young but not so healthy, then you need to be more concerned.

One thought that seems to be unanimous is that we will all be exposed to Coronavirus at one point or another, it’s just a matter of how soon and when. Even with the lockdown in place we are all still expected to be expose to Covid-19.

Common Sense Topic Number 4. Is the Health System Getting Overloaded?
I honestly am not sure on this one but would not deny it. I have seen on the news what the media is showing and it looks terrible, but then I have seen a lot of videos from independent people walking up to hospitals and even walking through them and finding very few people and describing the hospitals as ghost towns. Remember all elective surgeries are on hold so if a hospital is not hit that hard with Coronavirus patients then it’s going to be a lot slower than normal. So I believe that some hospitals may be getting hit harder than others, I just don’t think every hospitals emergency looks like a war zone like we have been told. And to make matters worse, doctors and nurses have to completely gear up with gown, masks, face shields, gloves every time they interact with a possible Covid-19 patient which takes a lot of extra time since you can not wear some of the same protective gear from patient to patient.

Common Sense Topic Number 5. How is the Extreme Lockdown Going to Impact Our Economy?
This is another area that is very new ground but so far we are at record unemployment with business going under, people not able to pay their bills or even buy food and medications. That’s just right now, how is this going to effect us long term, again we have no idea but I see depression, alcoholism, drug addictions, domestic violence and even suicide rate levels we have never seen in the past. What about the deaths cause by these factors? Are they being considered in the totals at the end of the day?

One fear I have is that once Coronavirus infections go down, and we are allowed to start to go back to work, and back to as normal as a life that is left for us, there will still be infected people out there so all of this is going to start again and the possibility of us having to again go back to a shutdown situation. Dragging this scenario on for a much longer period of time and destroying our economy even further.

Common Sense Topic Number 6. How Can we Protect our Elderly and Compromised while Still Keeping Our Economy Strong?
This is where I think common sense has gone down the toilet. Everyone is so focused on the Impact to our Health System and how scary Covid-19 is, that they have a kind of tunnel vision where their only goal is to protect the Health System at all costs while ignoring everything else that is happening that may be in fact much worse long term.

Here is my question, would it not be best to isolate the elderly and people with health conditions, while the young and healthy continue go back to as regular a life as they can and continue working and supporting the economy. Here in Canada the elderly consist of about 15% of the population and many of them are on pensions and or have a lifetime of savings stored up and often times no mortgage or debt. The elderly are more prepared to tuff out the storm than jobless younger people with mortgages, families to support and business to run. Would it not be easier for the government to focus on aiding the 15% that might need financial help, then having to bail out the majority of the country and not just individuals but large businesses which will be very costly and more of a hit to our economy.

Let us go back to work so we can support ourselves, stay mentally healthy which is proven to keep our immune systems working properly. We need to be able to help out our elders and those that are compromised, by allowing them to stay safe and isolated from the threat, while getting the support they need from the government and everyone else. With the young and healthy at more risk of exposure there will be some that get sick and some that may die, that is tragic but do not be mistaken this is a war against an outside threat, it just happens to be a virus. Humanity has been willing to die for their country and for their families over much lesser threats. I am not afraid to put my self at risk and on the front lines to save others, a risk I feel has been blown out of proportion by the media. Once the vast majority has been exposed to Covid-19 we will create antibodies against it that will give us a herd immunity, effectively killing off the virus in its tracks. Once this happens then those more susceptible will no longer be at risk.

This is simply what makes the most sense to me, you may not agree but sitting at home waiting to die is no way to live.
