Gabriel's Taekwondo Purple Advanced Belt Testing at CMA Martial Arts

My son Gabriel tested for his Advanced Purple Belt at CMA Martial Arts in Langley. He is halfway to getting his black belt now and has worked really hard over the past year and a half to get to where he is now. I am very proud of his hard work and dedication to the sport!

Testing involves demonstrating some punching and kicking combinations, breaking boards, sparring and grappling with opponents. It is really cool to see the boys putting everything together now when they spar and grapple together, it's really entertaining to watch :)

Sadly my $1200 Sony RX100 IV camera has been giving me some issues with the occasional video file and it corrupted the final video which was of the boys receiving their belts :(

Congratulations to all the boys for their hard work, commitment and for earning their new belts!

My Taekwondo Yellow Belt Testing at CMA Martial Arts

My turn to test for a belt in Taekwondo :) I've been training in Taekwondo over at CMA Martial Arts for a couple of months now and it was time for testing. I have done some mixed martial arts in the past, (about 3 years ago) so it was not like I was starting entirely from scratch but we did not train for belts at the other Martial Arts gym.

In this belt testing cycle I was going for my Yellow Belt, basically the first belt in a series of 14 belts I need to get through to achieve my black belt. That said I do feel like I am doing fairly well against the other guys in my class who have been training for longer than me. I guess their higher level brings me up to speed quicker which is fine with me :)

In this Belt Testing video, we perform some basic punching and kicking combos, we break some boards, do a bit of sparring and we ended with some grappling but unfortunately my camera did not cooperate during the grappling portion of the video. At the end we where awarded with our belts but again I had some camera issues and only recorded my Yellow Belt being handed out. Congratulations to all the guys who have trained hard for their belts!

Gabriel's Taekwondo Purple Belt Testing at CMA Martial Arts

My son Gabriel tested for his Purple Belt at CMA Martial Arts in Langley. He is almost halfway to getting his black belt now and I am very proud of him, he is doing really well and is beginning to look like a real Martial Artist!

Testing involves demonstrating some punching and kicking combinations, breaking a few boards, sparring and grappling with opponents. I was really impressed with Gabriel's sparring and grappling, he is starting to put it all together and it is paying off with some nice combinations and submissions.

Congratulations to all the boys for their hard work, commitment and the reward of some new belts!

I'm Giving Martial Arts Another Try :)

Here is a video Darren Clark from CMA Martial Arts (AKA CrossFit Langley) uploaded. It showcases some of the boys doing strength training and martial arts, what a combo! You get Body, Mind and being Kick Ass combined!

I have been wanting to get back into martial arts for some time but had some concerns about getting injured.Darren takes a very safe approach to his training avoiding a typical high risk injury situations and focussing on standup striking and kicking skills along with ground work submissions, chokes and positioning.

So far I have done three days of training with Darren and have truly enjoyed all of it. If you are in the Langley BC area, come on down and see what kind of program Darren can set you up with!

Gabriel's Taekwondo Green Belt Testing at CMA Martial Arts

My son Gabriel had another Taekwondo belt testing at CMA Martial Arts (CrossFit Langley). This time he was up for his Green Belt, so far Gabriel has received his, white, yellow, orange, camo and now green belt. Gabriel has been training in Taekwondo under Master Darren Clark for about 10 months now and has done really well, I am super proud of him!

Gabriel is very athletic, not just in Taekwondo but he also does well in pretty much any sport he puts his mind to. If anything we have to hold him back sometimes ;)
