Total Gym Upper Body Workout Overview

If you have read my other posts, you've probably figured out that I'm a BIG Total Gym fan-boy. Seriously, if I could only have one workout device in my gym, the Total Gym would be it! It's just so diverse, easy to use and quick and easy to get a good workout done in, very little time. And you can build muscle with a Total Gym, maybe not scary muscle but for most of us that isn't the goal. Personally I have excessively used the Total Gym for a three month test period to see if I could actually gain muscle starting from a stage when I had regressed over the holidays. And I was in fact able to put the muscle back on and get in shape just using a ToTal Gym without any other workout gear!

These videos focus on doing a Total Gym upper body workout. It's mainly a quick overview of the Total Gym workout routine that I use in my own home gym. I go over several upper body exercises that I do to workout my Chest, Back, Shoulders, Arms, and Abs. I hope you enjoy it!

Daily Workout - Back, Shoulders & Arms

Today was party day for my Mother-in-law, she turned 65. This is one of the reason I have been so busy around the house cleaning and prepping! I really wanted to get a quick workout in today and I needed to catchup on some exercises I missed the last three days due to all the work around the house...

I managed to get a Back, Shoulders and Arms workout done before I had to get ready for the 65th birthday party.

Below are some photos of the event and the house and yard all the work went into:

The back is feeling great now, I think I was starting to get used to the regular daily pain and now that it's gone, I almost feel like I have more strength overall.

  • 10 Minutes Punching Bag.
  • Total Gym - Seated Wide Row.
  • Total Gym - Seated Narrow Row.
  • Total Gym - Pull Downs (Lying on Back).
  • Total Gym - Abs: Seated Side Twists in Forward Position).
  • Misc. Stretching.

Total workout time: About 1 hour.

Daily Workout - Yard Work & Back at Home

Today I really gave my back a test, I have been putting it off for a while but with or without my bad back I needed to get some work done around the yard and the weather was cooperating for me too.

Unfortunately the yard work that needed doing was the worst kind for the back... Moving dirt from piles to some rather large holes in the ground. We had some trees removed last year and it left some pretty large holes that needed attending to.

It took close to 4 hours and I would guess I moved about 30-40 wheel barrels of dirt, and some of this dirt was more like concrete! A major workout indeed!

I probably burned about 2000 calories moving dirt around my yard but on the other hand I drank about 3 liters of juice. Good thing I water my juice down or I would have drank 2000 calories in beverage, as it stands I probably drank about 1000 calories in juice.

After some more rehydrating, dinner and a bit of a rest I did a quick Back workout in my home gym, I skipped the cardio today, I think a I already got enough in the yard.

  • 4 Hours Moving Dirt!
  • Wide Bar Pull Downs (Behind Head).
  • Narrow Bar Pull Downs (In Front of Head).
  • Seated Rows.
  • Abs: Crunches.
  • Misc. Stretching

Total workout time: About 4.5 hours.
