Switching out a hair system is always an interesting process. Whether you are moving between different base materials or installing a fresh unit, every system has its own unique characteristics.

I just retired my previous Lordhair 0.03mm Ultra-Thin Skin (UTS) system after six solid weeks of daily wear and installed a brand-new Lordhair 0.06mm SuperSkin-V Polyurethane System. Before getting into the install, let’s look at how the 0.03mm Ultra-Thin Skin held up:

• Longevity: Lordhair generally rates 0.03mm ultra-thin skin units for about 4 weeks. I managed to get 6 full weeks out of mine.

• Base Condition: The poly base had zero rips, tears, or holes. Doing a full removal and clean-up around the 3-week mark allows the adhesive to break down naturally, which makes removing and cleaning the delicate base much safer.

• Shedding: Shedding was minimal. Most shedding occurs during the washing and re-install, but day-to-day loss was well within expectations.

• Sun Fading: Over 6 weeks, the color shifted slightly from a deep black/gray to a warmer brownish tone. During the first 3 weeks, I was diligent about wearing hats outdoors and saw virtually no fading. The fading happened in the last 3 weeks when I for the most part stopped wearing hats in direct sunlight. If you want maximum color longevity, wear a hat in the sun.

Hairline Maintenance Tip: As thin skin systems age, the hair right at the frontal boundary may shed slightly, leaving a sliver of exposed polyurethane. I took a pair of precision scissors and carefully trimmed the clear excess poly right down to where the hair starts. It instantly refreshed the hairline and made it ready for future backup use.

Step-by-Step Installation: The 3-Stage Method

Installing a poly system solo requires a strategy that prevents the unit from sticking prematurely. Here is the center-anchor technique that works best for me:

1. Prep and Dry the Adhesive

• Apply a thin, even layer of clear-drying water-based acrylic glue (such as Ghost Bond or Walker Great White) to both the scalp and the underside of the poly base.

• I apply the glue slightly thicker on the hair system base than on the scalp.

• Use a blow dryer on cool/warm to dry both surfaces until the adhesive turns completely clear. Never drop a unit onto wet, milky glue, especially at the front.

2. Lock Down the Center First

• Rather than coating the entire head and hoping for a flawless drop, secure the center line first.

• Align the system front-to-back and side-to-side while holding the perimeter edges up.

• Lightly tack down the center strip. This anchor point gives you leeway: even if you need to pull it up and shift it slightly, you won't ruin the perimeter bond.

3. Secure the Back

• Roll the back half of the system forward.

• Apply and dry your adhesive to the rear crown and scalp.

• Carefully roll the system backward, smoothing it outward with your fingers to ensure it does not fold or crease over itself.

4. Align and Bond the Front Hairline

• Make a subtle reference mark on your forehead (a light indent with a tool or a makeup pencil works well) to establish your exact placement.

• Apply your adhesive up to the reference mark on your scalp and also onto the poly base, letting it dry completely transparent.

• Roll the front down smoothly from the middle outward, pressing firmly to eliminate air pockets.

Blending and Styling: Thinning Shears Are Your Friend

The new 0.06mm SuperSkin-V hair system has fantastic hair density, but straight out of the box, it requires a little customization to blend with natural bio hair:

• Tapering the Transition: My natural bio hair was cut a little shorter in the back than usual, creating a noticeable step between the system hair and my bio hair. My bio hair is also thinner in actual hair thickness then the hair system.

• Thinning Shears: Using thinning shears only on the hair system (not the bio hair), I gradually removed bulk from the bottom perimeter of the unit. Thinning shears are very forgiving, make a few snips, comb it through, check the mirror, and repeat until the transition looks seamless.

• Color Settling: Fresh units tend to be rich and saturated. After a wash or two and normal wear, the color tones down slightly, which makes the integration with your natural bio hair even more realistic.

Pro Tip: Don’t Panic Over White Glue Spots

Here is a scenario that catches a lot of people off guard:

You finish your install, press the hairline down, and suddenly notice milky white patches showing right through the clear poly base along your part or frontal hairline. This often happens if microscopic moisture, scalp oil, or trace amounts of cleaning alcohol mix with the adhesive during placement.

What to do:

1. Do not rip the system off.

2. Be patient. Water-based acrylic adhesives need a full 20 to 24 hours to fully cure.

3. If you have to go out, simply style your hair forward to cover the hairline temporarily.

4. When you wake up the next morning, that trapped moisture will almost always have evaporated, leaving the adhesive completely clear and invisible against the scalp.

Retiring the Lordhair Neo (For Now)

For the past several months, I’ve been wearing the Lordhair Neo. It’s a fantastic hybrid system featuring a breathable French lace top and front, surrounded by a thin skin perimeter.

• The Pros: The skin perimeter gives you a great surface to stick your tape or glue to, making it very easy to apply, remove and clean. It’s breathable, comfortable, and highly durable.

• The Wear and Tear: I wore my Neo for nearly two months with my latest version. I typically take it off every two weeks for a full clean and reapplication. Despite being out in the sun (always wear a hat when you can if in direct sun!), the color held up remarkably well with minimal fading or shedding.

Enter the UTS: 0.03mm Ultra-Thin Skin

While the Neo is a workhorse, I wanted to step up the realism. The UTS (Ultra-Thin Skin) system is Lordhair's finest and most natural-looking option.

Here is what makes the 0.03mm system special:

• Invisible Base: At just 0.03 millimeters thick, this polyurethane base is essentially transparent. When it touches your scalp, it disappears nearly completely.

• V-Looped Hair: Instead of tying the hair in knots (which can leave tiny visible dots at the root), the hair is V-looped directly into the skin base. It literally looks like the hair is growing right out of your head.

• The Color Match: I’m embracing my age! I upgraded my color from a 1B (with 30% gray) to a 1B50—which is the same lighter black with 50% gray. It blends seamlessly with my natural bio-hair on the sides.

The Catch? Durability.

Because this system is paper-thin, it is more fragile. You have to be gentle when cleaning and removing it to avoid tearing the base. Lordhair states these units last about a month. It is the ultimate trade-off: you sacrifice a some longevity for maximum, uncompromising realism.

My Quick Glue Installation Method

Because the UTS is so thin, using tape can sometimes risk tearing the base during removal. I prefer an all-glue liquid adhesive approach for this specific system. Here is the trick I use to keep things aligned:

1.Prep the Scalp:Clean and shave.

Remove the old system, use an adhesive remover to clean the scalp, and give your head a fresh, close shave. Wash with shampoo and let it dry completely remove any scalp oils using some alcohol.

2.The Center Anchor:Crucial for alignment.

Instead of gluing the whole head at once, apply a single strip of liquid adhesive right down the middle of your scalp (Side to side).

3.Position the System:

Line up your front hairline using your fingers as a guide (usually 3-4 fingers above the eyebrows). Press the center of the system down into that strip of glue. This anchors the hairpiece perfectly in place and is a lot easier to adjust if you do not line it up perfectly the first time.

4.Glue the Front and Back:

With the center anchored, simply fold back the front half, apply your glue to the system and your scalp, let it get tacky, and roll the system down. Repeat for the back half.

The Final Verdict & Special Promo

Once the UTS is on and styled, the results speak for themselves. The blend on the sides with the 50% gray is spot-on, and the hairline is completely undetectable, even right up close. It feels like wearing absolutely nothing.
