The fading happened in the last 3 weeks when I for the most part stopped wearing hats in direct sunlight. If you want maximum color longevity, wear a hat in the sun.

I took a pair of precision scissors and carefully trimmed the clear excess poly right down to where the hair starts. It instantly refreshed the hairline and made it ready for future backup use.

Step-by-Step Installation: The 3-Stage Method

Installing a poly system solo requires a strategy that prevents the unit from sticking prematurely. Here is the center-anchor technique that works best for me:

1. Prep and Dry the Adhesive

• Apply a thin, even layer of clear-drying water-based acrylic glue (such as Ghost Bond or Walker Great White) to both the scalp and the underside of the poly base.

• I apply the glue slightly thicker on the hair system base than on the scalp.

• Use a blow dryer on cool/warm to dry both surfaces until the adhesive turns completely clear. Never drop a unit onto wet, milky glue, especially at the front.

2. Lock Down the Center First

• Rather than coating the entire head and hoping for a flawless drop, secure the center line first.

• Align the system front-to-back and side-to-side while holding the perimeter edges up.

• Lightly tack down the center strip. This anchor point gives you leeway: even if you need to pull it up and shift it slightly, you won't ruin the perimeter bond.

3. Secure the Back

• Roll the back half of the system forward.

• Apply and dry your adhesive to the rear crown and scalp.

• Carefully roll the system backward, smoothing it outward with your fingers to ensure it does not fold or crease over itself.

4. Align and Bond the Front Hairline

• Make a subtle reference mark on your forehead (a light indent with a tool or a makeup pencil works well) to establish your exact placement.

• Apply your adhesive up to the reference mark on your scalp and also onto the poly base, letting it dry completely transparent.

• Roll the front down smoothly from the middle outward, pressing firmly to eliminate air pockets.

Blending and Styling: Thinning Shears Are Your Friend

• Tapering the Transition: My natural bio hair was cut a little shorter in the back than usual, creating a noticeable step between the system hair and my bio hair. My bio hair is also thinner in actual hair thickness then the hair system.

• Thinning Shears: Using thinning shears only on the hair system (not the bio hair), I gradually removed bulk from the bottom perimeter of the unit. Thinning shears are very forgiving, make a few snips, comb it through, check the mirror, and repeat until the transition looks seamless.

• Color Settling: Fresh units tend to be rich and saturated. After a wash or two and normal wear, the color tones down slightly, which makes the integration with your natural bio hair even more realistic.

Pro Tip: Don’t Panic Over White Glue Spots

Here is a scenario that catches a lot of people off guard:

You finish your install, press the hairline down, and suddenly notice milky white patches showing right through the clear poly base along your part or frontal hairline. This often happens if microscopic moisture, scalp oil, or trace amounts of cleaning alcohol mix with the adhesive during placement.

What to do:

1. Do not rip the system off.

2. Be patient. Water-based acrylic adhesives need a full 20 to 24 hours to fully cure.

3. If you have to go out, simply style your hair forward to cover the hairline temporarily.

4. When you wake up the next morning, that trapped moisture will almost always have evaporated, leaving the adhesive completely clear and invisible against the scalp.
