Daily Workout - Back in Home Gym

Winter is a bit of a downer, it's dark at around 4pm and my body just wants to really do nothing except take it easy. Even so, you just have to get yourself in the gym and at least do something. I generally put on a few pounds in the winter but the key is to not let it get out of hand, so when spring comes along it only takes a bit to shed the few pounds gained over the winter.

My main goal is to try and keep the muscle on so my metabolism stays higher - so if I only have the energy for weights and not cardio then I just do weights that day! Today was one of those days!

  • Elliptical - I looked at it for 10 seconds!
  • Wide Chin-ups with pulley bar.
  • Narrow Chin-ups with pulley bar.
  • Seated Rows with pulley bar.
  • Abs: Misc Abs - Crunches and Leg Raises.
  • Misc. Stretching

Total workout time: About 45 minutes.

Daily Workout - Chest in Home Gym

Not much to say about todays workout. Just your basic Chest routine, I wasn't sure if I was going to do the Elliptical but I threw it in at the end!

  • Bench Press with Dumbbells.
  • Incline Dumbbell Flies.
  • 3 Stage Pushups: Planche, Extended, and Regular.
  • Abs: Side Twist Leg Raises.
  • Misc. Stretching.

Total workout time: About 1 hour.

Daily Workout - Legs at Fitness World

I stopped by the Gym today with the family, Fitness World has a day care and it gives my Wife and I a chance to do a workout together every once in a while - hard to do at home. The kids like the day care as there are lots of other kids and games to play so it works out good for everyone!

Fitness Worlds is a great place to do a leg workout, they have lots of equipment for legs.

  • Squats with Squat Machine.
  • Calf Raises with Seated Calf Machine.
  • Leg Extensions with Universal Leg Extension Machine.
  • Leg Curls with Universal Leg Curl Machine.
  • Abs: Twist Crunches on inverted Ab bench.

Total workout time: About 1 hour.

Daily Workout - Shoulders and Arms with Total Gym

I Skipped the Elliptical warmup today and did my Shoulders and Arms on the Total Gym, I also got some Abs in at the end. So far everything is back on track, I'm not trying to overdo it after a few weeks off form my Maui trip. There is also nothing for me to be really that motivated for as it's the dead of winter here and having a few extra pounds just keeps me warmer :)

  • Total Gym - Seated Shoulder Press.
  • Total Gym - Reverse Shoulder Raises (Lying on Back Upside-down).
  • Total Gym - Seated Shoulder Raises (Front to Back).
  • Total Gym - Front Seated Shoulder Raises.
  • Barbells - Shrugs.
  • Biceps: Lying Down Curls with Total Gym. (3 Sets with an increase in the incline each time)
  • Barbell Curls - (1 big set)
  • Triceps: Seated Overhead Extension with the Total Gym.
  • Triceps: Lying Down Extension with the Total Gym.
  • Triceps: Rear Extension with the Total Gym.
  • Abs: Misc crunches and leg raises.
  • Misc. Stretching.

  • Total workout time: About 1 hour.

    What a difference a week can make!

    I say this not so much in fitness terms but more in how I feel about working out or really just doing anything. The weather here in the Vancouver Canada area is turning very wintery all of a sudden and that combined with me being in Maui not even a week ago is a bit of a drastic change for me... I think many people find a lack of drive or motivation in the Winter months and I am no exception!

    To make my point, the following two photos I shot consecutively on my iPhone about a week apart from each other:

    I'm not making excuses, I did do a workout today and I felt pretty good doing it. I got in some Elliptical as my warmup and I did some Back on the trusty Total Gym along with some lower body stretching. About an hour or so in all.

    I snapped a quick photo of the Post Maui Abs thinking that they may not make it onto the blog but they turned out OK. Maybe all the Maui drinking and eating didn't take as much of a toll on me as I thought!
